Kavya Shivashankar dominates the 2009 Scripps National Spelling Bee. This video features winner's best moments. The 13-year old from Olathe, Kansas was one of six Indian American girls in the championships.
In her fourth appearance at the national Bee, Shivashankar employed the technique of writing with a finger on the palm of her hand as she spelled out each of the 16 words that gave her the championship. In previous years, the aspiring neurosurgeon took 10th, eighth and fourth place.
Sponsored by the Kansas City Star, Shivashankar will take home more than $40,000 in cash and prizes, including a giant trophy.
