Iraqi nationals in london took part in their national election in March 2010. Some Iraqi nationals did not have any Iraqi document to prove they were from Iraq but had British passports and Home Office documents which clearly stated they were from Iraq.

However, the Iraqi Electoral Commission initially decided not to allow these people to vote. When all negotiations failed to resolve this issue, Kurdish Iraqis protested, as they were disproportionately affected compared to Iraqi Arabs.
The police intervened to stop the protest and this led to the arrest of up to 40 Iraqi Kurds. Among those arrested were election observers.
