Hundreds of demonstrators gathered for the weekly protest in the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood in East Jerusalem to demonstrate against Israeli apartheid. Israeli police reached new levels in its violence against the demonstrators in an effort to break a nonviolent popular resistance. Several demonstrators were injured from the police's brutality and were taken to hospitals.
The residents of Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood in east Jerusalem have been protesting their forced displacement and takeover of their homes by Jewish settlers. Israeli police has been reacting to the non-violent demonstrations, attended by hundreds of Israelis and international supporters, with great brutality, arresting some 60 people in December alone.
