Tropical Storm Malou approached Japanese coast north of Kyoto, bringing heavy rain and winds of 74 kilometers per hour. Malou was 50 kilometers northwest of Toyooka, a town near Kyoto on the main island of Honshu, at 5 a.m. local time today, Japan's Meteorological Agency said. The storm is forecast to move along the coast before making landfall near the city of Kanazawa northwest of Tokyo at about 12 p.m. today. Warnings were issued for landslides, heavy rain and flooding for central Honshu while lower-level advisories were posted for most of the island.
