The Pearl Daikanyama care home has about 170 residents and workers, but none was injured when the machine came tumbling down. The only casualties from the crash were some shattered windows.

Hiroko Shintani, 77, chairwoman of Pearl Social Welfare Corp., which manages the facility, said the arm of the crane hit a room on the third floor housing a 100-year-old woman.
