What is MaYoMo?
MaYoMo is a media site for global and mobile citizen journalism. With an ever-expanding corps of citizen and independent journalists based in every corner of the globe, MaYoMo is shaping the evolution of journalism and delivering the world's most inspired multimedia news content.
How to Register?
If you are a new visitor, please follow these steps:
- Click the 'Sign Up' button.
- Answer the question ( for example 9+8= ) and enter an email address
- You'll receive an email with a link for activation of your account on the MaYoMo site.
Click it.
- You'll be sent to a page where you should enter a username and a password.
Please read 'Terms And Conditions' and click 'I agree'.
- Type all required data (marked with *) and finish your registration.
- Congratulations! You're now part of the MaYoMo world. Welcome.
How do I log in?
Click the 'Log in' button, then type your username and password and click 'Enter'. That's it-you're now ready to use the site!
How do I send news?
You need to register first, and then you'll be able to send news. After logging in, click the 'Send news' button. An upload menu will open.
Attach the file you want to upload by browsing and choosing it from the directory or folder where you have it saved on your computer.
Write a title of your material.
Write a description about it. (Optional)
Choose up to three categories that are relevant to your material. (You must choose at least one).
Type some keywords (tags) to make it easier for people to search and find your material.
If you are uploading directly from your mobile handset, choose Device (Select).From the drop-down menu labeled 'I have used this device to create the file.' select a brand. Then, in the next box, enter the model of your device.
Enter date in this order and format: YYYY-MM-DD. You can also add an exact hour if you wish. For example, if your event took place on the 24th of December 2008 at 5.43 PM, then you can type: 2008-12-24 17-43-00
Choose the country where the event or news took place.
Check 'Graphic Content' if the material includes drastic scenes.
Choose the language the material is in. You can select two different languages if, for example, there are subtitles.
Check your data once again and then click the 'UPLOAD' button.
Sending news from a mobile: You can also upload directly from your mobile by sending a MMS to news@mayomo.com.
Sending news by email: You can upload your material by emailing it to news@mayomo.com. The subject of your email will be the title of the material.
Can I upload from a mobile phone?
Yes, you can also upload directly from your mobile by sending a MMS to news@mayomo.com.
How do I set the timeline?
You can use the timeline at the bottom of the map to search for content that was posted in a specific period of time.
What is Virtu?
VIRTU is our 'Virtual Continent' where you can find materials about computer games and virtual worlds. You can find VIRTU on our world map right between Europe and America.
What is Ask for news?
'Ask for news' is a unique way to ask for information you need. Whether you want to find out what the main street looks like in a village somewhere around the world, or to understand how the animals in the Sydney's zoo are doing, simply upload a 'News Requests' request and wait for a response.
Is it free to use MaYoMo?
Yes, it's free.
How do I navigate within the map?
You can click on each country from the world map on the main page.
After clicking, the bigger view of that country will appear.
Within its borders, you'll be able to see orange markers of the uploaded materials concerning this country and the chosen category.
If you change the category, the markers will change accordingly.
How do I choose a category?
On the main page, there are four main categories (Citizen Journalism, People, Entertainment and News Requests) and subcategories within each of them. Simply click on the category you're interested in and the relevant subcategories will appear. Then, by clicking a link to a specific content item, you go immediately to it.
May I add a comment?
Yes, you can add either a text or video comment. Just click on the 'Post a comment' .Then type your text comment. If you would like to add a video comment, click on 'Video Reply' and follow the instructions for uploading your video comment.
What is a video comment?
The video comment is a movie or a picture that you can add as a comment to a content item posted on MaYoMo.
How can I embed videos from MaYoMo on another web site?
When you watch content on MaYoMo, there's an 'Embed' button below the player. Click it and you'll find the script you need to embed that particular content or video on another web site.
How do I rate a video?
When you watch a video, there's a 'Media info' button. Click it and you'll see a 'Rate this video' line with five stars. Click as many stars as you think this material deserves.
How does the flag system work?
When you view a content or a comment on MaYoMo which you think is inappropriate, you can alert us about it by clicking on the orange flag icon .That particular content/comment will be checked by our staff and removed if necessary.
